About the event:
100 Culture experts from 58 cities worldwide, including delegates from Italy, Germany and the Netherlands, gathered in Leeds to discover more about the city’s collaborative approach to ensuring diverse audiences are provided with an equal access to culture and demonstrate how Leeds as a city encourages people from all walks of life to become artists and cultural practitioners.
Following the theme of ‘celebrating diversity through innovative cultural partnerships’, the forum coincided with Leeds’ spectacular Light Night event, the UK’s largest annual arts and lights festival, which saw over 60 illuminated installations and performances from across the globe transform some of the city centre’s most recognisable landmarks, buildings and locations.
Karen Murgatroyd heads up the International Relations team at Leeds City Council and works in partnerships with organisations across the city, the region, Europe and beyond. Karen plays a pivotal role for Leeds for the EUROCITIES network and helps to coordinate involvement in various forums and working groups covering all aspects of urban policy across Leeds City Council, the University of Leeds and Leeds Beckett University. Karen is instrumental in driving conferences into the city of Leeds as part of her role, and she is responsible for a number of key events hosted here each year.
