Foodie capital of the North: How you can get a taste of Leeds at your next event

Leeds has a reputation for being the foodie capital of the North. Home to a vibrant and diverse food and drink scene, the city boasts an enviable combination of a thriving independent and street food community as well as a Michelin star restaurant and numerous independent restaurants appearing in the Michelin guide. This is a city filled with passionate people and venues known for their craft, serving up delicious food.

When attending an event or conference at one of Leeds’ independent venues you can truly take a bite out of the city and taste that Yorkshire style. From locally sourced food to delicious menus that cater to all taste buds and exceptional dishes that guests won’t forget, Leeds’ independent venues give you a taste of the North.

From field to fork

Eating delicious and sustainable food is part of the world-leading conference experience at Horizon, Northern Ballet and The Terrace. That’s why these independent venues chose to work with Catering Yorkshire, a local caterer that provides delicious food from field to fork.

The menus served by Catering Yorkshire use local and ethically sourced ingredients that incorporate seasonal specialities and the tastes of Yorkshire. With delicious lunch boxes, tasty sandwiches and fresh salads, the locally-inspired menus are sure to keep delegates nourished throughout the day.

Using a local caterer that prides itself on bringing the freshest ingredients to its clients also makes a huge contribution to those venues’ sustainability efforts. From local staff and produce, to plant-based dishes or the fact that all packaging is 100% biodegradable, every component of the caterer’s offer makes a real difference.

Menus for all taste buds

The Studio understands how important great and delicious food is in order to deliver an exceptional event. So much so, that the venue recently launched its very own cookbook called Balance filled with its most popular dishes.

Conference organisers and delegates can expect a flexible and creative approach to event menus at The Studio. Offering great food that is accessible to all guests is key, with dish options to satisfy vegan, vegetarian, gluten or dairy free diets. The current day delegate menu offers delicious dishes to suit all taste buds and ensure delegates are well nourished and energised throughout the day. That extra culinary flare can also be brought to those more bespoke events too, as The Studio offers BBQs, picnics, afternoon tea, street food and canapé menus.

Inclusive dining is key at Leeds’ independent venues. Working with Catering Yorkshire means the venues can cater to all dietary requirements and tastes without jeopardising quality and freshness. So whether delegates are vegan, vegetarian or dairy free, they won’t have to worry about an entirely separate menu as there’s something for everyone.

Show stopping dishes

Hosting an event in the foodie capital of the North means organisers can expect show-stopping, exceptional dishes that embody the flavours and tastes of Leeds.

At The Mansion, the team specialises in creating extraordinary and memorable dishes. A dish that often gets people talking is the deconstructed Eton Mess. Unique to The Mansion, this is an organic chocolate dome, brushed with gold and filled with chocolate ganache with mini balls of berry sorbet and vanilla pod ice cream. To add to the taste experience, guests can forage from trees in the middle of their table, which are filled with open glass baubles containing goodies including meringue, freeze dried berries, popping candy and marshmallows!

The Terrace, which proudly works with Catering Yorkshire, fittingly serves the Yorkshire and Proud menu. Best described as ‘tapas with a Yorkshire twist’, the menu showcases fresh and delicious local ingredients in bitesize nibbles that are perfect for mingling and sparking conversation. A favourite dish at The Terrace is the ‘Lishman’ sausage with creamed mash and a red onion jus which is a flavourful take on the traditional bangers and mash and sourced from just up the road in Ilkley.

Leeds’ independent venues ensure that the city lives up to its reputation as foodie capital of the North. Hosting an event at one of the city’s leading venues means delegates are able to truly take a bite of Leeds and experience the exceptional.
