The Leeds City Region has earned a global reputation for being the place to resolve difficult production challenges with high-tech manufacturing and engineering solutions. In fact, two-thirds of manufacturers here are specialists in advanced processes, R&D and product development.


The Leeds City Region has a unique network of established academic and research centres of manufacturing excellence. At the University of Leeds: the world leading Institute for Transport Studies work with global vehicle manufacturers, testing their systems on the world’s most technically advanced driving simulator; The School of Engineering has a track record of delivering high-quality research to solve real world problems. The University is at the forefront of robot design and construction, the National Facility for Innovative Robotic Systems is based in the Faculty of Engineering. The Institute of High Speed Rail and System Integration which is being developed will be the UK’s first research centre dedicated to these areas of the rail industry and one of the world’s most advanced centres for high speed rail planning and testing.
Leeds City Region also has a worldwide reputation in Agri-Food. It is the UK’s second largest food and drink producing region, home to both world-renowned producers and manufacturers as well as academics with the University of Leeds’ School of Food Science and Nutrition producing world-leading research.
