Hampton by Hilton development gets underway in Leeds

The first phase of a new regeneration scheme at Bridge Street in Leeds began yesterday 5th  September 2017.
Eric Teng, the CEO of Heeton Holdings Ltd – the Singapore-based property developer leading the consortium behind this landmark project, led the commencement of work celebrations.

The scheme will create a sustainable urban destination on the 2.45-acre site that was once occupied by British Gas prior to its relocation to Holbeck. The scheme is set in an ideal location in the city centre, close to the Victoria Gate shopping centre and the emerging creative quarter.

Central to the first phase of the scheme will be a new property by major hotel chain, Hampton by Hilton, following an agreement for a new 14-storey hotel. The 192-bed hotel, which has an anticipated opening date of late 2019, will also include a gym, a bar and a restaurant.

An intended second phase of the overall masterplan would provide a significant number of new homes, responding to the strong demand within Leeds for high-quality, centrally-located accommodation.

Heeton have contracted Robertson to undertake the construction of Phase One of the scheme. Robertson is one of the largest independently owned construction companies in the UK. With 50 years of experience, they have worked on schemes such as The Broadway Bradford and Hampton by Hilton in Aberdeen.

Judith Blake, Leader of Leeds City Council, said:

“We’re delighted to welcome Hampton by Hilton to Leeds. The city is seeing impressive growth in both business and leisure tourism as Leeds is recognised as a top destination. The construction of this new building is a sign of confidence in Leeds which directly impacts its economic success, making a difference to everyone who lives and works in the city.”

Eric Teng, CEO at Heeton Holdings Ltd, said:

“There has been a lot of hard work from Heeton and our partners to get to this stage, so I delighted and proud to officially get construction for Phase One started today.

“This site has long been identified as an area to provide a vibrant new neighbourhood in an up-and-coming area of Leeds. We can now look forward to creating something that will serve the city of Leeds for many years to come and bring this area to life during the day and into the evening.”

Edwin Liu, Country Head (UK and Europe) at Heeton Holdings Ltd, said:

“As the first phase of this wider development, the Hampton by Hilton project marks a significant commencement to the regeneration of this district. The area has transformed in recent years and we are confident that the hotel and the rest of this fantastic scheme will help continue the positive impact on the city centre.

“We look forward to working alongside Hampton by Hilton to make this development a huge success.”

Patrick Fitzgibbon, Senior Vice President of Development at Hilton, said:

“Leeds is at the centre of the North of England’s economy and with the UK Government’s Northern Powerhouse proposals set to boost the regional economy, visitor numbers are set to increase considerably in the next five to 10 years. This is a terrific project to be a part of and a great opportunity to expand our fast-growing Hampton by Hilton presence in the UK.”
