Conference Leeds champions Sustainability with In the Circle’s Sustainable Business Conference

Conference Leeds, the conferencing bureau for the city of Leeds, was delighted to welcome the inaugural In the Circle Sustainable Business Conference Yorkshire on Wednesday 19th of May to promote business sustainability to the region.

This year’s event was launched by In the Circle after noticing the lack of support for business sustainability in Yorkshire. The conference, which is the first of its kind from In the Circle, was due to be held at New Dock Hall in Leeds but took the form of a virtual event due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In the Circle welcomed over 400 delegates from businesses, Councils and Governments across the country to better understand the opportunities that sustainability initiatives can bring.

Delegates were able to hear expert opinion and keynote speeches from some of Leeds’ leading industry voices including, Professor of Environmental Policy at the University of Leeds and Chair of Leeds Climate Commission Prof. Andy Gouldson, Transport for the North’s Sustainability Officer Peter Cole, Director of The Northern Powerhouse Partnership Henri Murison and Head of Sustainability at United Utilities Gordon Rogers. The event also took the form of sessions to inspire and inform delegates on initiatives available, an exhibition area to discuss opportunities with organisations from a range of sectors and the ability to network with hundreds of other industry leaders.

On the Sustainable Business Conference, Chief Executive Officer at In the Circle, Alec Walton, commented: “We are delighted with the success of In the Circle’s first sustainability conference. There was a real appetite for a business sustainability event in Yorkshire, and Leeds was the ideal place to hold our first event due to its size, accessibility, diverse economy and key role in the Northern Powerhouse.

“We hope that this year’s event has inspired businesses across Yorkshire to take steps towards a more sustainable future, and we look forward to returning with our physical event in 2022.”

Head of Conference Leeds, Claire Heap, said: “We are thrilled to have welcomed In the Circle to the city for the Sustainable Business Conference Yorkshire. Leeds is a leading hub for healthcare, technology, manufacturing, financial services and digital economy, many which are implementing their own strategies to make strides towards a more sustainable future for the city. We hope that the Sustainable Business Conference encourages more businesses to introduce sustainable practices into their businesses and workplaces to secure a brighter, greener future for the city of Leeds.”
