Well Met welcomed World Challenge Expeditions for their 2016 Expedition Preparation Conference

World Challenge Expeditions, the leading provider of life-changing student-led expeditions, brought their Expedition Preparation Conference (EPC) to Leeds Beckett University yesterday, Sunday 15th May 2016. Well Met, the conference office for the University, organised the key one-day event which saw around 130 School Leaders, Exhibition Leaders and Assistants come together to receive support and preparation in anticipation of forthcoming expeditions.

The Rose Bowl’s flexible spaces allowed the team to set up Destination Sessions which provided the delegates with an opportunity to experience their expedition destinations, with local food and cultural experiences.

These sessions enabled delegates to gain insight into their upcoming expedition and understand their itineraries to a confident level. In addition, there was a session led by Cormac Davey, World Challenge’s Project Specialist, which focussed on how to facilitate a successful project, the role of a leader and the initiatives they are working on to enable a successful expedition.

The second half of the conference delivered sessions in Support and Preparation, which covered medical training, mental health and wellbeing and operational support. These key areas enabled delegates to get to grips with the realities of leading an expedition and provided practical advice and resources for individuals to take away with them. Throughout the day, delegates were encouraged to visit each continent corner to find out more about their destination, meet World Challenge Expedition Agents and Planning Managers and learn more about future expeditions.

Clare Vidler, Conference Manager for Well Met, Leeds Beckett University’s conferencing office commented: “As an academic venue, we were thrilled to be chosen as one of the hosts for the Expedition Preparation Conference this year. World Challenge Expeditions is a fantastic organisation and here at Leeds Beckett University we are fully supportive of associations which offer opportunities for students to travel and gain experience abroad.”

Karen Fitzpatrick, Events Delivery Manager at World Challenge Expeditions comments: “Our Expedition Preparation Conferences are key events in our calendar each year and we are always looking for venues which fit with our ethos of preparing students for the wider world. The Rose Bowl at Leeds Beckett University provided a great setting for our conference in Leeds with its city centre location, fantastic facilities and flexible spaces. We’re excited to have a troop of new leaders who are now prepared for their upcoming expeditions!”
