Reason for nomination: The Conference and Events team proved that event industry professionals can simply turn their hand to anything. When lockdown was first announced, many members of staff and students of the University left the campus quickly and at such short notice, that many left their belongings behind.
The team was responsible for the planning and running of a system that allowed staff collections through a dedicated online booking system.
The team also worked with the International Office and Accommodation Team to look after 506 international students on their arrival to the UK and found them a room to self-isolate for 10 days, assisted with getting food and setting up a bank account. The team also hand delivered food and catering to those in self isolation to over 100 flats and would regularly check on those who had tested positive to check they and their housemates were keeping safe and well.
From April to June of 2020, the team from Leeds Beckett University provided the NHS with one of the university’s buildings at no charge to ensure that they could continue to run their training, after training spaces at Leeds General Infirmary (LGI) had become part of the dedicated COVID-19 wards.
