Reason for nomination: From the onset of the pandemic in March 2020, MEETinLEEDS’ entire service portfolio was affected in a multitude of ways. Their in-person activity was either cancelled or postponed and the team have worked incredibly hard to pivot face-to-face events into virtual offerings. Reimagining the event activity has demonstrated the team’s commitment and drive to deliver for their customers, and the ability to flex to the prevailing environment.
As their venues went quiet, the team at MEETinLEEDS continued to work tirelessly and supported the accommodation team as students returned to University. They delivered mail, offered a physical presence packing food boxes, made reassuring calls to self-isolating students and learnt the intricacies of the University’s switchboard to support the University community. They enhanced the welcome experience for 803 international student arrivals through Autumn and into the New Year by arranging travel, setting up processes and systems to support their arrival and providing quarantine packs. They have also run the administration of the test centre, managing staff rotas, booking systems and worked closely with colleagues onsite to operate a well-functioning asymptomatic testing centre.
The team have shown real perseverance in the face of adversity and there remains commitment to a future that will be brighter as a result of the parts they have played as individuals and teams in the months gone by.
