The Queens Hotel Leeds Awarded Prestigious Green Key for Sustainability

The Queens Hotel in Leeds has been awarded the prestigious Green Key Accreditation, recognising its excellence in sustainable operations and environmental responsibility. The award highlights the hotel’s commitment to eco-friendly practices, from energy efficiency to waste reduction, ensuring guests can enjoy a stay that’s both luxurious and sustainable.

The Green Key Accreditation is a leading international eco-label for the tourism sector, awarded to establishments that meet stringent criteria in environmental management, staff engagement, and guest education. To achieve the award, The Queens successfully met 13 key criteria, covering aspects such as energy efficiency, waste management, water conservation, and sustainable sourcing.

This new accreditation adds to The Queens’ impressive list of sustainability achievements, which already includes Green Tourism Gold, Green Meetings Gold, and Greengage EcoSmart awards.

The hotel’s sustainability efforts extend across operational and environmental practices. For example, under the energy criteria, the hotel evaluates room temperatures, appliance efficiency, window performance, gas emissions monitoring, kitchen energy practices, and comprehensive building energy audits. This detailed approach ensures that sustainability is embedded into every level of operations.

A dedicated Green Team, worked closely with Mission Net Zero to implement and monitor these practices. Staff engagement also plays a key role, with sustainability training available through the hotel’s online platform and a Green Wall providing visible reminders and updates on sustainability initiatives.

Sunil Lad, Green Team Leader at The Queens Hotel Leeds, commented: “Achieving the Green Key Accreditation is a fantastic milestone for the hotel and a real testament to the teamwork and commitment shown across all departments. We’ve worked hard to embed sustainability into our daily operations, so this recognition reinforces our belief that sustainability isn’t just an initiative, it’s part of who we are and how we operate at The Queens.”

While environmental initiatives remain a priority, The Queens is equally committed to social responsibility. The hotel actively engages with the local community through charitable partnerships and initiatives and focuses on fostering an inclusive and supportive work environment for its employees.

As part of the Pandox portfolio, with operational management by Axiom Hospitality, The Queens operates with a focus on sustainable development, balancing luxury with eco-conscious practices. This accreditation underscores the hotel’s leadership in sustainable hospitality and its commitment to shaping a responsible future.
