A positive sign of the times – Rudding Park introduces British sign language and signing workshops

Rudding Park in Harrogate, North Yorkshire has introduced a series of workshops including: an Introduction to British sign language (BSL), singing, stargazing and meditating designed to boost positive mental health in the workplace, alongside a range of physical and adrenalin fuelled activities. The activities are part of a new ‘Enhance Your Event’ offering so delegates can experience something different when attending a meeting or event at the resort.

An Introduction to British Sign Language was first experienced by the Rudding Park team as part of the resort’s accessibility training. Lead by Deaf Awareness trainer Sean Chandler, who provides engaging sessions with great personal insight, it’s a great way for companies to reinforce the importance of empathy in the workplace with their employees.

Lyndsey Gibbs, Event Manager explained “As a business it is important we are agile and respond to developing trends keeping our offering both fresh and innovative. A recent report carried out by Champion Health reveals 60% of workers are experiencing moderate-to-high levels of stress. With this in mind, we considered how we could help meeting and event organisers boost the positive mental health of their employees. Expanding our teambuilding offerings to include British sign language, singing, meditating and stargazing are a wonderful ways to boost mood, build confidence, have fun, take time to reflect or try something a little different. In addition to the new offerings, we continue to work with the amazing team at OFFLimits Ltd who provide a fantastic range of physical, mental and adrenalin fuelled activities. A particular favourite, new for 2023 is Tablet Treasure Hunt designed to explore grounds of Rudding Park.”

For those looking for an activity to improve team positivity, communication and confidence the SuperSING workshop is an option. There is no need to be able to read sheet music – the session is all about fun and being part of a team; ‘finding your voice’ and singing arrangements of wellknown pop songs.

To reconnect with nature, delegates visiting or staying during stargazing season (September to March), can discover the sky at night. Astronomer, Richard Darn who helped establish Europe’s largest Dark Sky Park, helps newcomers to stargazing find their way around the cosmos. Richard provides an informative and engaging presentation to guide delegates around some of the more easily recognisable features of the night sky; before venturing outside to observe the night sky.

Meditation experiences are led by Jowita Penkala, who over the past 25 years has studied the human mind and developed a passion for meditation. Her transformative programmes help people to eliminate stresses, accomplish big goals and thrive in every aspect of their lives.
