British Association for Supported Employment celebrates successful conference in Leeds

The British Association for Supported Employment (BASE) is celebrating the huge success of its annual conference, which took place in Leeds in November.

BASE is the national umbrella group for the supported employment sector and aims to support, promote and develop the principles and provision of supported employment, a model used for decades to improve employment outcomes for disadvantaged and marginalised people.

Returning to the city of Leeds for the first time since 2015, BASE welcomed over 180 delegates to Hilton Leeds City Centre and provided them with an opportunity to celebrate, connect and strengthen the voice of the supported employment community.

The exciting two-day programme comprised panel discussions, a wide variety of workshops, the BASE 2022 Awards and keynote speeches from stakeholders including a virtual appearance Tom Pursglove MP, Minister of State for Disabled People Health & Work.

On the conference, Laura Davis, CEO from BASE commented: “We are thrilled to have been able to return to Leeds this year for our annual conference. With so many delegates in attendance and such important items to discuss, we needed a host city that offered excellent facilities, fantastic transport links and exciting cultural experiences; and Leeds offers this in abundance. Our delegates were able to navigate the city with ease, and network with others in the field whilst getting a real taste for the city. It was a fantastic conference and we already look forward to next year.”

Claire Heap, from Conference Leeds said: “We were so pleased to have been able to welcome BASE back to the city of Leeds for their annual conference, and it’s an honour for the city of Leeds to be chosen to hold the conference for the second time. BASE chose a fantastic venue in Hilton Leeds City Centre, and it’s been great to hear how successful the conference was. We hope that we left delegates with a positive lasting impression of Leeds, and we hope to be able to host BASE again in the future.”
