Conference Leeds named Best Destination Team at 2021 miaList Awards 2021

Conference Leeds, the conferencing bureau for the city of Leeds, has been named Best Destination Team at this year’s miaList Awards which marked the 10th Anniversary of the Meetings Industry Association’s (MIA) miaList.

The miaList Awards is an annual event which recognises the outstanding individuals and teams within the conference and events industry. The winning Conference Leeds team comprises Head of Conference Leeds, Claire Heap; Business Development Manager, Charlotte Podlewska; and Conference Officers, Karen Spencer and Sarah Emmott and was rewarded for its outstanding response, communication and adaptability to the global pandemic.

Through a city-wide collaboration, the Conference Leeds team positioned itself as a critical support network for venues, organisers and delegates alike. The award for Best Destination Team acknowledges the ongoing support that Conference Leeds offered to all areas of the conference and events industry in Leeds throughout the pandemic and beyond.

The support offered by the team included the launch of an Industry Champions initiative, which recognised the teams and individuals in Leeds who went beyond their job roles during the Covid-19 pandemic and unwavering support for the implementation of Visit Britain’s ‘We’re  Good to Go’ industry standard for tourism and hospitality businesses.

The conferencing bureau also launched two dedicated campaigns geared towards raising the profile of Leeds’ diverse venue portfolio. Explore Leeds and Independent Venues Month were launched soon after government restrictions were lifted and promoted the city’s wide array of conferencing venues to prospective organisers and delegates around the country.

The Awards took place at the Park Plaza London Riverbank on Thursday the 4th of November. In addition to the individuals and teams securing a place on the MiaList’s roll of honour, this year the awards opened up to celebrate the rising talent in the sector along with Best Destination Team, Best Events Team, Best Operations Team, Best Sales and Marketing Team and Best Venue Team.
