Leeds to host the annual conference for The Educational Buildings and Development Officers Group

  • The Educational Buildings and Development Officers Group (EBDOG) is hosting its first in-person event in three years in Leeds.
  • The event offers networking opportunities for colleagues across the country working to deliver fit for purpose buildings for children and young people to learn and grow up in.

Leeds will host the first in-person conference in three years for Educational Buildings and Development Officers Group (EBDOG) this summer, offering UK local authorities the chance to hear from the Department of Education on its delivery of planning and strategy.

Doors will open at the Hilton Leeds City Hotel on Friday 23rd June and will welcome around 250 delegates to the annual conference. Tom Riordan, Chief Executive of Leeds City Council, will open the conference with an introduction to the city’s economy and growth strategy, which includes training and education at the forefront of its prosperous and sustainable community plans.

The conference programme also includes keynote speakers from the Department of Education and workshop sessions, which invites delegates to engage with topics such as ‘good estate management’ that are central to the operation of education capital and pupil place planning.

Delegates will also attend a pre-conference dinner on the 22nd, which will feature performances and special guests championing Leeds as a great place to learn and grow while celebrating its status as 2023’s City of Culture.

Sally Lowe, Leeds City Council officer and member of the EBDOG Executive Committee, said: “We’re really excited to hold our first in-person national EBDOG conference after nearly three years. Our conference is a crucial event for Local Authorities across the country to discuss policy with each other and the Department of Education, along with the day to day challenges and solutions in delivering fit for purpose buildings and planning sufficient school places for children and young people to grow up and learn in. We’re thrilled our delegates and sponsors will be able to experience this in the city of Leeds, especially during our year as The City of Culture, in a home with a thriving and inclusive education sector.

“Whilst three years of virtual conferencing has taken place, we are really excited delegates will be meeting up again in person to network and benefit from the enrichment gained from sharing knowledge and solutions face to face”.

Claire Heap, Head of Conference Leeds commented: “We’re really pleased to welcome the 2023 EBDOG conference to Leeds. As a leading UK conference destination business, we are thrilled to be hosting the first ‘in person’ EBDOG Conference since 2019 to the city especially in our year of culture. We are thrilled that the conference also coincides with Leeds 2023, our city’s year of culture and that delegates will be able to experience some of the celebrations and the very best of the city’s creativity and culture and will have much to visit and enjoy during their stay.”
